Weekly blog entries

Every week, by the end of the day on Saturday, you are required to post on our class blog.

I’m asking you to make these posts because we learn better when we pause to reflect on our activities; things that didn’t seem important at the time can come to feel much more significant. This kind of reflection also helps us to come up with new creative ideas, which will be useful as you work on your formal written assignments and final collaborative presentation.

Blogging every week will give you a record of your time in class that you will be able to look back on, tracing the progress of your thoughts and ideas from the beginning of the semester to its end.

In your reflective blog posts, answer the following questions:

• What was the most memorable element of this week’s readings, discussions, and/or activities?
• What question(s) did the class raise for you (about material we covered, or about something related)?
• What more would you like to explore about this material?

Write at least 300 words.

You can post at any point in the week – I recommend doing it right after class, when discussions are still fresh in your mind.

Each blog entry is worth 15 points, making up 15% of your grade in total. Your four lowest blog grades will not be counted.

Blogs are graded according to this rubric:

Answering the questions: 5 points
Understanding of the readings: 5 points
Meeting the word count: 5 points

Blogs posted late will receive half points.

You can get extra credit for up to three blog posts that you write about events on or off campus related to LGBTQ Studies. Some opportunities are listed in the class schedule, but there are many others.
